KLM recently presented the new Premium Comfort Class during the Dutch Open 2022. Premium Comfort is a new intermediate class with more space, luxury, choice, comfort and privacy than in the current Economy Class, at a cheaper rate than World Business Class. With the Premium Comfort class, KLM meets the needs and wishes of both leisure and business travelers.
Premium Comfort is an entirely new class on board with its own cabin with new seats and its own service and catering. Depending on the aircraft type, there are 21 to 28 seats in the Premium Comfort section, which features wider seats with more legroom, a larger screen and a footrest. The seats in Premium Comfort can also be reclined further back than the seats in Economy Class. Conversion of the aircraft is carried out by the specialists of KLM Engineering & Maintenance at Schiphol-East.
Premium Comfort also distinguishes itself through the catering offer. During the intercontinental flight, depending on the duration of the flight, one or two meals are offered. There is always a choice between a meal with meat or fish and a vegetarian meal. After the meal there is a choice of coffee, tea, liqueur and ice cream. Snacks and cocktails are also available. For the meals, special attention is paid to dishes that were previously successful in World Business Class.
Lightweight and reusable
The new seats in the Premium Comfort are a design by Collins Aerospace in collaboration with the specialists of KLM Customer Experience and, in addition to the beautiful design and the comfort offered, are also distinguished by the weight reduction compared to previous seats. The materials used for the catering in the Premium Comfort have also been carefully selected. They are either reusable (special cutlery, bowls and plates made of lightweight polopropylene) or, if not reusable, made from recycled PEF. In everything, circularity and lightweight materials have been carefully considered, without detracting from the luxurious appearance.
The passenger will not only experience this new class on board, the Premium Comfort Class experience already starts at the airport: more luggage freedom and SkyPriority services such as priority check-in and boarding.
The first aircraft to be equipped with Premium Comfort will be deployed on routes to North America. It is expected that from the end of July 2022 Premium Comfort will be bookable at an increasing number of intercontinental destinations, according to the airline.
