Tesla's robot taxi cheaper than a bus ticket

Tesla Rodeo Texas

The robot taxi is extremely autonomous and has no steering wheel or pedals

During the explanation of the quarterly figures, Elon Musk discussed the car that with a bit of luck will go into production in 2024 and that he will introduce it to us as early as 2023. It is not yet known where the autonomous Tesla taxis will first hit the public road. The electric car will have no steering wheel or pedals and a ride would cost less than a ride on the metro or bus. For example, according to Musk, the robot taxi will be a lot cheaper than other transport services, such as Uber and Lyft. Musk previously announced the robot taxi, but did not share any further details at the time.

Tesla aims to mass-produce a robotic axi by 2024, CEO Elon Musk said during an earnings call with investors. In response to a follow-up question about the plan to build a robotic ride-sharing taxi, Musk offered few details, but said Tesla could hold an event sometime next year to reveal more about the project.

However, the CEO's target date for 2024 is characteristically ambitious and, like many of his predictions, could well fail. After all, Tesla has only two years to test and mass-produce the autonomous vehicle. Getting the green light from government regulators will also be a major challenge for the timely launch of a full-fledged Robotaxi service.
