The Netherlands is really a cycling country, it is taught to us at an early age. You learn to cycle from an early age and our country is ideal for this with thousands of kilometers of cycle paths. The National VVN Traffic Exam has been around for 90 years now, the initiative was founded almost a century ago in 1932. This week the National VVN Traffic Exam is again administered to groups 7 and 8 in the school regions in the middle, north and south.

You've probably seen it before, groups of children on bicycles with orange vests with numbers on them, passing checkpoints along the road. About 93 percent of all primary schools participate in the theoretical traffic exam and 83 percent of these will also take a practical traffic exam in the coming months. The combination of theory and practice is very important.

"Veilig Verkeer Nederland wants to achieve that every Dutch person feels safe in traffic. We lay both the theoretical and practical foundation for primary school children with the VVN Traffic Exam as a test instrument. Cycling is part of the Dutch culture. It is important that every child has a has a good bicycle and has the skills to cycle safely."

Due to the corona pandemic in recent years, not every school has been able to take a practical exam. What is the National VVN Traffic test really? The VVN theoretical traffic exam tests whether students master traffic knowledge, have sufficient insight into certain traffic situations and whether they are aware of the importance of safe traffic behaviour.

During the VVN practical traffic exam, it is tested whether the students can apply the knowledge and show safe behavior in real traffic. Teaching children safe traffic behavior is very important, this will benefit them for the rest of their lives and thus prevent accidents.
