Taxi drivers are regularly confronted with annoying behavior from customers. A taxi driver in Ostend was badly beaten last week after his passenger asked for money and he did not want to give it. It occurs more and more often. Recently a taxi driver also became a job incapacitated by an aggressive person. The main reason is the presence of cash in the car. Despite the professional federation insisting on as little cash as possible in the taxi, many drivers still like to see nothing more than cash in their pockets. When I take a taxi myself, it still happens too often that the driver explicitly asks for cash because the payment terminal is 'accidentally' defective.

According to Secretary-General Pierre Steenbergen of GTL-Taxi, the digital payment is causing an evolution. Still, the question remains why many taxi drivers in the big cities almost get angry when you say that you can only pay by card and do not have any cash with you. Van Steenbergen advises everyone to pay digitally as much as possible. Although that does not change the fact that taxi drivers often also become victims of traffic aggression without 'cash' being involved.

danger on both sides

Violence is not always directed at the taxi driver. Not only is LGBTQ violence the order of the day, two friends who, after a night out, took a taxi at the stand in Sloterdijk in Amsterdam, were allegedly robbed by a taxi driver. Recently, a report came out from dThe US taxi service Lyft. It received 2017 reports of sexual assault between 2019 and 4158, involving 360 rapes. This is evident from the first safety report that Lyft has now released. The figures are probably higher because the report was not necessarily made immediately after sexual violence took place.

victim support

These are just a few examples from a list that seems endless. Making a report is important in order to be able to trace the perpetrator and to obtain compensation for damage. Victim support helps with your tax return and give tips and advice. Have you suffered serious injury? Then you may be eligible for compensation from the Violent Offenses Compensation Fund. You can get a financial compensation from the Violent Offenses Compensation Fund request if you have experienced a violent crime and suffered serious psychological or physical injury as a result. Compensation from the Violent Offenses Compensation Fund also applies to the next of kin of victims of a violent crime or culpable homicide.
