Which municipality deserves the prestigious title of Bicycle City 2022? To answer that question, the Fietsersbond is looking for cycling jury members throughout the Netherlands. Judging can be done directly via www.fietsstad.nl. Jury members also have a chance to win the new Gazelle Bloom C7 HMS worth € 2.499.

Where Veenendaal took home the top prize in 2020, everything is possible again for the 2022 election. Which municipality has taken major steps in cycling safety, construction of good cycling routes and cycling happiness? Every cyclist can now speak out in a new edition of the largest bicycle research in the Netherlands.

“We are looking for a real professional jury for the Bicycle City 2022: all cyclists in the Netherlands. Because the best expert to assess whether your municipality is bicycle-friendly, is you as a cyclist! Whether you are a luggage carrier student, an older holiday maker, a cargo bike parent or a commuter. We are all experts by experience. Every municipality counts, however small or large it is: from Aa and Hunze to Zwolle and from Zwijndrecht to Aalsmeer.”

Judges for each municipality

The cycling jury members can shed their light on functional matters such as space on bicycle paths, adjustment of traffic lights and quality of asphalt. The inner jury member is not forgotten, because the much more subjective 'cycling pleasure' and 'cycling experience' are also discussed. In short: judging is for every cyclist in every municipality. In addition to the title of Bicycle City 2022, there are also special awards for, for example, the fastest climber in the ranking. Not only municipalities can win prizes. By completing the survey via bicyclecity.nl all participants have a chance to win great prizes, including the Gazelle Bloom C7 HMS worth € 2.499.

Supported by Gazelle

Bicycle City 2022 is made possible in part by Gazelle. According to Mirjam van Coillie, director of marketing and innovation at Gazelle, this election fits in perfectly with Gazelle's goal of getting people to cycle more kilometers. “Due to the rise of e-bikes, more and more people are cycling, also for commuting. Cycling offers a lot: it makes you healthier, you don't get stuck in traffic, you don't emit CO2 and you don't have a parking problem. At Gazelle we do everything we can to make cycling really more fun. With fine, comfortable e-bikes, connected bicycles with breakdown assistance and theft protection, you name it.” As a proud partner of the Fietsersbond, Gazelle therefore supports the Bicycle City election as the main sponsor, including the winning family bike Bloom C7 HMS, according to the Fietsersbond.
