Jumbo Supermarkets in Heerenveen recently opened its 13th home delivery hub. From this new distribution location at International Business Park Friesland, northeast of Heerenveen, groceries ordered online via jumbo.com and the Jumbo app will be delivered directly to customers throughout Friesland. With this Jumbo significantly increases its online delivery capacity in and around places such as Heerenveen, Leeuwarden, Sneek, Joure, Drachten, Harlingen and Wolvega. A major advantage is that customers in the region also have more choice from different delivery times.

Online orders on Jumbo.com and the Jumbo app will now be delivered via the e-fulfillment center in Raalte to the newly built hub at Vulcanus 24 in Heerenveen. The groceries then find their way from here – and no longer via the shops – directly to customers at home or at work. The opening of this new hub also means they can choose from more and shorter delivery times. The new hub of approximately 1300 m2 of floor space will be deployed from today in the delivery areas of Heerenveen, Joure, Gorredijk, St. Nicolaasga, Wolvega, Lemmer, Sneek and Noordwolde. In the coming weeks, places such as Drachten, Bolsward, Makkum, Wommels, Leeuwarden, Surhuisterveen and Harlingen will be added. At the end of 2021, about 40 delivery vans will drive directly to all customers in Friesland to deliver their online ordered groceries.

“The new home delivery hub in Heerenveen is a response to the increasing demand for online grocery shopping. More and more customers, both private and business, are discovering the benefits of delivery. In order to be able to deliver the groceries as quickly and efficiently as possible, Jumbo will open a number of central home delivery locations for its online orders after this new hub in Heerenveen. With a delivery hub, the capacity can be used even better and the journeys can be planned better. This also means that fewer kilometers are driven than before, which has a favorable effect on our CO2 emissions. Of course, Jumbo's online customers can expect the same good service when they deliver as they receive from the stores.”

Further expansion
In addition to the new hub in Heerenveen, Jumbo also has hubs in Amsterdam, 's-Hertogenbosch, Middelburg, Utrecht, Breda, Heerhugowaard, Bemmel, Hengelo and Groningen and Deventer. Last month another hub was opened in Maastricht. At the beginning of 2021, a new e-fulfillment center in Bleiswijk was taken into use, which also functions as a hub. To continue to meet the growing demand for home delivery, increasing online delivery capacity through further expansion with hubs is high on the agenda. With this Jumbo provides an increasingly strong omnichannel offer for its customers, according to Jumbo.
