At the request of its customers, Sunweb Group has harmonized its policy on following color codes with European guidelines. From Wednesday 4 August, customers of Sunweb, Eliza was here and Primavera can choose for themselves how they deal with the color codes within the European Union.

The starting point of the travel organization was to follow the travel advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and not to offer holidays to areas where the 'travel only if strictly necessary' applied (color code orange). At the request of its customers and following the example of other countries, such as Belgium and Denmark, the travel organization will harmonize its policy with the guidelines of the European Commission. With this, Sunweb Group is also following the advice of ANVR, the trade association that sent a letter to the government last Monday with the request to adjust its policy.

“After last week the Spanish islands, Cyprus and Portugal were given code orange, we noticed that more than 50% of our customers really want to leave to enjoy their well-deserved holiday. That is why we want to leave the choice of going on holiday with our customers from now on. This also happens, for example, in neighboring Belgium, which follows European guidelines. We have been in favor of this policy from the start. The Dutch government reminds travelers of their own responsibility and we are now also giving our customers that choice,” says Mattijs ten Brink, CEO of Sunweb Group.

Flexible conditions, care and safety remain in force
Customers who do not want to go on holiday to a destination with color code orange can still rebook or cancel their holiday free of charge up to two weeks before departure. They will then receive their money back within 14 days. These flexible conditions apply to both existing and new bookings. The repatriation guarantee also continues to apply. Ten Brink: “If our customers test positive at the destination, we will take care of it. Taking into account the local measures, we will arrange the quarantine and take care of the costs for a possible longer stay and flight back home.” If the destination has a quarantine obligation, has code red or if there are new corona variants at the destination, Sunweb Group will not carry out the holiday.

Information provision and insurance
Sunweb Group continuously informs its customers about the corona measures in force at the destinations, before and during the holidays. It is also advised to carefully check the travel and cancellation insurance before departure. The travel and cancellation insurance offered by Sunweb Group continues to cover all non-covid related assistance and costs for holidays to a destination with code orange.

Free quick test at destination
In addition to checking the insurance carefully, the holidaymaker must take extra measures if the destination has code orange. “Before you board the plane to the Netherlands, if you are not fully vaccinated, you must do a corona test at the destination. The current rapid tests that the Dutch government currently requires are organised, facilitated and paid for by us," says Ten Brink. Which test you have to do and how many hours in advance can change and differs per destination. Check nederlandwereldwijd.nl for the most up-to-date information.
