Due to the increasing number of corona infections in large parts of Europe, travelers have many questions about their upcoming holiday. This leads to busy customer service at various Dutch travel organizations. For example, Sunweb has considerably scaled up the number of employees who work at the helpdesk and Corendon is also “continually busy recruiting extra people”.

“There are many concerned people who want advice,” said a Sunweb spokeswoman. “The unrest that has been sown by the government with the statement that the Netherlands is turning red is not helping.” According to a spokeswoman, the ruling at the latest corona press conference ensures that the number of bookings has fallen. There is no question of an increase in the number of cancellations or rebookings, according to the Dutch travel organizations.

The travelers especially want to know what happens if other European countries impose restrictions on Dutch people because of the increasing number of infections in our country. As a result, they could be faced with additional measures such as mandatory quarantines. Other holidaymakers want to know what will happen if the travel advice for their holiday destination is tightened or want advice about their holiday that has yet to be booked. If necessary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs adjusts the travel advice every Thursday.

Not excluded

The Dutch travel organizations do not travel to countries where travelers are subject to a quarantine obligation on arrival. “Each country is free to adjust entry restrictions for foreign travelers at any time,” said travel organization TUI. “We do not expect them to refuse vaccinated and tested Dutch people or impose a quarantine. It is highly unlikely but not excluded.” Sunweb also does not count on Southern European countries to soon impose travel restrictions on Dutch tourists.

The travel companies say that customers can rebook their holidays or get their money back if a trip has to be cancelled.
