The Arnhem parties SP and PvdA wanted to know what consequences the arrival of the taxi service will have for the existing taxi industry. Uber announced last month that it would be active in Arnhem and Nijmegen. According to the Gelderlander the municipality has something to say about taxis, but not about the 'order market' to which Uber belongs. SP and PvdA were also concerned about Uber's low rates. These could lead to unfair competition and exploitation of its own drivers.
Meanwhile, it was announced that Uber drivers will purchase or lease a fully electric Kia on 'attractive terms'. This is possible thanks to a deal Kia signed with Uber, as part of the taxi service's goal to use only electric cars by 2030.
