The court in Haarlem has declared D-rt Groep, the company behind travel organization D-Reizen, bankrupt. The consequences for customers who have booked a trip with the organization or who have a voucher after a previously canceled trip by corona are still unknown. D-Reizen was affiliated with the Stichting Garantiefonds Reisgelden (SGR), but it is still uncertain whether all trips and vouchers are fully covered. D-Reizen itself previously took SGR and the State of the Netherlands to court because it threatened to go wrong with the voucher fund.

After a trip to Germany at the German travel group RT / Raiffeisen Touristik Group, travel agency chain D-Reizen came back into Dutch hands last December. CEO Jan Henne De Dijn takes over the company together with his business partner Marije Haeck from the German travel group RT / Raiffeisen Touristik Group.

owner property

Earlier, the owner of the property in Meppel filed a request with the court to declare D-Reizen's parent company bankrupt. The travel company D-rt Retail then proposed to the landlord to reduce the rent by 75% in the coming months. The company followed the example of other companies who believe that they should put the real estate market under pressure due to the corona crisis.

In a letter dated May 9, 2020, D-rt Retail proposed to its landlords that the rent be paid over May and June, no rent is paid in the third quarter and a turnover-related rent is paid in the fourth quarter. The owner could not agree with that proposal and filed a petition for bankruptcy of D-rt Retail with the court on May 14, 2020. D-rt Retail is part of a large group with a turnover of millions, while the owner is a private investor who owns one property as a retirement provision.

vouchers

D-Reizen itself previously took SGR and the State of the Netherlands to court because it threatened to go wrong with the voucher fund. D-Reizen had previously issued its own vouchers with the permission of SGR, but because the company acts as an intermediary and does not offer package tours itself, it cannot claim the voucher fund. The cabinet has set up a voucher fund in particular to accommodate small travel organizations. This pot contains 400 million euros, which the sector can use as a bridging loan in the form of a loan.

According to the ANP, D-Reizen has more than 1150 employees and 285 travel agencies. The franchise companies that operate under the VakantieXperts brand name are excluded from bankruptcy. The possibilities of a restart are currently being examined. D-Reizen was founded in 1966 and arose from an initiative of supermarket chain Dirk van den Broek. Customers could save for a trip to Italy. The supermarket chain sold its stake in the company seven years ago.
