WILLEMSTAD (ANP) - The Representation of the Netherlands in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten is calling on holidaymakers, students and interns to leave the island as soon as possible. These are Dutch people who have no necessary reason to stay on the island, not people who are registered on the island. The call was made on Thursday and is valid until April 15 in any case.

This is a consequence of the current Covid situation. That is very serious on the island. “The care capacity may be inadequate due to the high number of corona infections,” said the Representation. Medical care is therefore not guaranteed and must be relieved in the short term to handle a new flow of patients. There is a test requirement for people who leave the island before departure from Curaçao, when they return home to the Netherlands, travelers must be in home quarantine.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath already sounded the alarm about the situation in the hospital. According to him, it is full due to the ever-increasing number of corona patients. On Thursday, 431 new infections were registered. This brings the total number of active infections to 3466. There are 103 people in hospital, 34 of which are in intensive care. Three people have died in the last 24 hours. In total, it concerns 38 corona patients who have died.
