PostNL is doing well, where many companies have huge revenue losses or have even gone bankrupt due to the corona crisis, it is just the opposite at PostNL. People sent each other a greeting through the letterbox more often and ordered a lot more stuff online. Due to the consequences of the corona crisis, a huge number of cards, letters and packages were delivered last year. The lockdown in the Netherlands in particular did PostNL well. PostNL recently published the preliminary results for 2020. Last year they delivered no fewer than 337 million parcels. Of these, about 25 million packages were probably sent once and only because of corona. Normalized EBIT for 2020 is expected to be 240 million euros, much more than they previously indicated.

Herna Verhagen, CEO PostNL: “For society as a whole and for PostNL, 2020 can be described as an exceptional year in unprecedented circumstances. Thanks to the enormous commitment of our people and the resilience of our business activities, we have been able to play an essential role in society. We always put the health and safety of our own people and of the consumer first. Our results were driven by very strong business performance in both Parcels and Mail in the Netherlands. These exceptional results deserve exceptional recognition. After the strong fourth quarter results, we are increasing the payout for our people. And we also reward the people who are employed by our Parcel sorting and delivery partners in the Netherlands with an extra payment. In addition, the improvement of our financial position makes it possible to return a dividend over 2020, as previously announced".
