The huge number of positive tests with the mutated version of the coronavirus is causing a lot of panic in the UK and far beyond. According to the British government, this mutated version is 70 percent more contagious than the other variants, according to Nu.nl. Since yesterday, a flight ban has been imposed from the United Kingdom to the Netherlands by our government. This measure was taken on the advice of the RIVM, this measure will certainly apply until 1 January.

This was announced yesterday in a brief to the House. Also, travelers from the United Kingdom can no longer come to our country by ferry and train. This leaves a lot of stranded travelers in the English ports. Ferry services from Newcastle, Harwich and Hull to IJmuiden, Hook of Holland and Rotterdam have been discontinued. There have been huge rows of trucks in Dover for days.

The shipping of goods and freight traffic to the Netherlands is excluded, it only applies to the transport of passengers. France closes the borders completely for 48 hours and only allows goods to be transported if the cargo is not accompanied by people, this also causes problems of the supply of goods. The cabinet is looking to assist Dutch nationals who are now detained in the United Kingdom where possible.

More and more countries around us are banning flights from the United Kingdom to limit the spread of this even more contagious version. The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Ireland, Bulgaria, Canada, Argentina, Chile, Israel, Poland and Denmark, among others, no longer accept flights from the United Kingdom or have imposed strict restrictions for the UK, the NOS reports on their website . Today there is a crisis meeting in the EU about this contagious corona variant
