The Haarlem passenger transport company Jan de Wit Group reported fraud to the Public Prosecution Service in early 2018. According to the trade magazine Passenger Transport Magazine the declaration was made after it was with the Jan de Wit Group it appeared that one of its employees had accepted money from subcontractors of Jan de Wit. These subcontractors were engaged in the implementation of train replacement transport that is provided by Jan de Wit on behalf of the NS. The employee concerned was immediately fired with immediate effect.

“We are very shocked. We have never experienced anything like this in our almost 100-year history, ”says Walter de Wit, director of the Jan de Wit Group. “It is therefore good to learn that the Public Prosecution Service has taken steps in response to fraud of which NS and we have become victims and has proceeded to prosecution. Much damage has been suffered and it is up to the criminal court to pass judgment on the persons and bus companies that have been involved in this. ”

Jan de Wit Group - which coordinates a large part of train replacement transport for NS in the event of train cancellations, calamities and disruptions - is concerned about the impression that could arise in the media unintentionally, and emphasizes that Jan de Wit is in no way the fraud is involved.

“That impression is clearly incorrect and involvement is definitely not an issue. Jan de Wit Group itself suffered significant damage due to the fraud and actively cooperated in the criminal investigation. All this in consultation with the Dutch Railways. ”

Jan de Wit Group awaits the judgment of the criminal court and - as long as the case is under the criminal court - does not want to make any further statements. There is a suspicion that the fraud is related to the allocation of ride orders to subcontractors of the Jan de Wit Group, but the company did not want to confirm that either.
