The cabinet agrees with the reform plans that KLM presented to Tuesday Wopke Hoekstra and Cora van Nieuwenhuizen. This means that a final agreement has been reached and the airline will receive 3,4 billion euros in support from the government and banks. Last night, the House of Representatives was informed of the agreement reached on the reform plans.

The image of the KLM pilots was severely tested. In some media they have been compared to the 'bankers in the sky', referring to the grab culture prior to the crisis in the banking sector. All other unions had previously agreed to KLM's austerity plans, but the VNV pilots' union continued to resist for a long time. KLM has now pledged to reduce costs by at least 15 percent. Longer wage moderation was a hard requirement of Hoekstra to make the second part of the support package available.

In addition to wage moderation, the cabinet also wants the number of night flights to be reduced and CO2 emissions per passenger to be further reduced. By 2030, this must be reduced by half compared to 2005. Almost 1 billion euros of the aid package had already been transferred earlier.
