Various regions want to cooperate with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and network operators to install more charging stations in the Netherlands faster. Because more and more electric cars are on the road, so the demand for charging stations is also increasing. This week, the various parties announced their collaboration on the website of the National Government. The 6 regions that will work together are: Provinces of Zeeland and South Holland, G4 (Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht), MRA Electric (provinces of North Holland, Flevoland, Utrecht), Provinces of Groningen, Fryslân and Drenthe, Provinces of Overijssel and Gelderland and the provinces of North Brabant and Limburg. The network operators in each region are also part of the cooperation, they think about where the connections to the power grid should be and how best to load the power grid.

State Secretary Van Veldhoven: 'Electric driving has many advantages. To make maximum use of it, you must be able to charge your car easily anywhere in the Netherlands. That will require a lot of work in the coming years. That is why I think it is great that we are taking this step together with municipalities, provinces and network operators towards a nationwide network of charging stations. '

De overheid has earmarked 15 million euros for the construction of a nationwide charging point network, and the regions are also contributing this amount. The cooperation between these parties saves time and money and provides an unambiguous policy for the user. The cabinet's goal is that by 2030 all new cars that hit the road will run completely without exhaust fumes. They expect about 1,9 million electric cars to be driving by then, which together require about 1,7 million charging points. According to the government, it is estimated that in the Netherlands about 2021 new charging points will be needed in 213 and about 2025 new charging points per working day in 550. The Netherlands is the front runner in terms of the number of charging points per square meter.
