Aviation has been seriously affected, but fortunately it is now starting to pick up again. Tourists can return to many countries. The Aalsmeerbaan at Schiphol has no longer been used as a runway for air traffic since Saturday 28 March, due to the consequences of the corona crisis. The Aalsmeerbaan served as a parking lot for aircraft that were not used by airlines throughout this period.

There was a huge need for aircraft parking spaces. This is because of the corona crisis, many companies had their entire fleet on the ground. Schiphol announced that the Aalsmeerbaan will be used again from 6 July as a runway. The Aalsmeerbaan is a runway located in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.

This runway is only used when it is busy at Schiphol or when it is necessary due to the weather. This runway is not used at night due to noise pollution. In this era of corona, air traffic used the Polderbaan and the Kaagbaan. Schiphol expects an increase in the number of flights from July onwards, and expects to use 3 runways again. Now there are about 300 take-offs and landings per day. Before the corona crisis, this was approximately 1450 take-offs and landings per day.

After a long period of time, the rest for local residents around Schiphol will also end. Local residents have been fighting for years against the increasing use of the Aalsmeerbaan. This runway has the arrival and departure routes right across Uithoorn and Aalsmeer. This causes a lot of noise. Performed earlier this year Greenpeace even if action is taken on this job, the organization wants the government to impose strict climate requirements on KLM as a condition for the state support they receive from the government.
