Mike Moons now has to find another job because of this coronacrsis. It was always his dream to become a driver. After months of no income Roger and Mike Moons are now laying down the books of their taxi company themselves Taxi Moons in Ypres and Bruges. Too little government support put father and son in a hopeless situation.

hopeless situation

First there was the loss and bankruptcy of Thomas Cook and now there is corona. Nobody called Taxi Moons anymore after the corona measures put the country in a lock-down. The relaxation of the measures came too late for the family business from Ieper. Founder Roger Moons (69) has deposited the books himself and was declared bankrupt by the commercial court in Ypres on Tuesday.

water is on the lips says GTL

Pierre Steenberghen of GTL previously sounded the alarm bell for the Belgian taxi sector. The taxi companies that are still active are deployed in difficult working conditions and at a loss for the transport of hospital staff, port staff, drivers of public transport and returning travelers from risk areas.

The employers' federation GTL asked up to the government to take appropriate measures. Such as the nuisance premium for companies without activities and specific financial and material support for those who do remain active.

bankruptcies will follow

Taxi companies that still carry out journeys are also struggling. They are counted on for necessary transport services, such as bringing hospital staff and public transport companies to and from home. In addition, returning travelers are urged to drive home by taxi so as not to endanger their family.
