Entrepreneurs can go to the UWV for the NOW scheme from Monday 6 April, with which staff will be paid up to 90 percent by the government in the event of a loss of turnover. Of course there are rules with which the company must comply. Healthcare providers do not currently have this option. Health insurers will compensate health care providers financially for the income they miss during the corona crisis.

The government has asked dentists and physiotherapists, among others, to turn to health insurers for support, and not the UWV or the counters for self-employed persons. By paying continuity contributions to healthcare institutions, health insurers want to ensure that care can also be provided after the corona crisis.

“We are not hand-held at our fair”, directors Georgette Fijneman (Zilveren Kruis) and Ruben Wenselaar (Menzis) say in an interview about the rescue package, which was presented on Sunday.

All healthcare providers who do not provide corona care and their see regular treatments stop due to the corona outbreak, can apply for a continuity contribution. This scheme applies to primary care laboratories, oral care, maternity care, physiotherapy, remedial therapy, occupational therapy, district nursing, seated patient transport and independent treatment centers in specialist medical care. The financial support measures apply to both contracted and non-contracted healthcare providers.

The financial position of health insurers is therefore also under heavy pressure. Not only is it supporting dentists and physiotherapists At issue, many insurance contracts for which insurers could offer cover have also lapsed. This includes insurance for fairs, festivals, Eurovision Song Contest, and travel insurance. Whether as a result of this the health insurance premium will rise more sharply next year is far too early to say.

Healthcare providers who are not directly involved in the care of corona patients therefore receive a monthly continuity contribution. In this way, healthcare providers are compensated for lower turnover as a result of the corona crisis. The contribution allows them to continue to pay their fixed costs, such as personnel and housing costs.
