Due to government measures in the fight against the coronavirus, the number of online orders in the Netherlands is increasing sharply, PostNL writes. The company finds that more packages are being delivered because consumers are taking to the streets less and many physical stores have closed their doors. The health and safety of employees, customers and partners are paramount and that is why they keep the developments watch closely.

Consumers therefore order much more stuff online. In addition to the increase in packages, PostNL also sees that more cards are being sent than usual. This increase is because people want to let us know that we think of each other during this difficult time. Delivery is currently still going according to plan, PostNL says, but the pressure, combined with the measures to comply with the guidelines of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and the higher absenteeism due to illness can still lead to delays.

“That we can continue our postal and parcel delivery in this situation so that people can stay at home is a huge compliment to everyone who works with or for us. Of course our delivery staff who take to the streets and deliver mail and parcels everywhere. But certainly also all the people behind it: sorting, preparation, transport and everyone else in our logistics operation. I am proud and have a lot of respect for our people, who continue to enable delivery of mail and parcels with their efforts. We ask everyone to give our people the space so that they can continue to do their work safely, ”says Herna Verhagen, CEO PostNL.
