Production at Volvo Cars in Ghent will be shut down in phases, the night shift may stay at home today. By stopping production, the company will incur significant losses. Earlier, the news came out that truck builder Volvo Trucks in Oostakker stops production to protect personnel against the advancing corona virus.

The measures regarding hand hygiene and keeping distance are no longer sufficient, according to the staff, who were very concerned. The prescribed 1 meter distance cannot be guaranteed. In addition, the supply of materials from abroad, especially Italy and France, is becoming increasingly difficult.

After a long meeting with unions and management, car manufacturer Volvo Cars has now also decided to close the factory. Many employees already insisted on this yesterday. The management confirms the message.
