The German car group Volkswagen will close all factories in Europe. The Volkswagen staff council confirmed this today. That would be the case for two or three weeks, depending on the evolution of the coronavirus here. The VW Group factories were previously closed in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Slovakia. Volkswagen and its subsidiaries employ a total of more than 300.000 people, most of them in Europe.

It concerns all parts of the group, including Audi, Skoda, Bentley and truck manufacturers such as MAN and Scania. In China, the car manufacturer has again opened the factories. There, the number of infections with the virus has fallen sharply.

Yesterday, French car groups Renault and PSA already announced that they will close all factories in Europe. PSA includes Peugeot, Citroën, DS, but also the German Opel and the British Vauxhall.

According to Autoblog it is not yet known which factories will close. Of course there is the factory in Wolfsburg. However, the car manufacturer has many more factories in Germany: Baunatal (transmissions, exhausts and the like), Braunschwieg (plastics, wheel houses, axles), Chemnitz (engines), Dresden (e-Golf), Düsseldorf (Crafter), Emden (Passat) , Hanover (Transporter) and Zwickau. In addition, Volkswagen has various other brands that are produced in Germany, such as Audi, Porsche and MAN.
