Speaking the same language is the key to an efficient ecosystem. For a successful implementation of MaaS, carriers will have to unlock their services and the availability of means of transport in a digital way.

The TOMP API (Transport Operator to Mobility Provider-Application Programming Interface) is the standardized and technical interface between MaaS service providers and carriers. The use of the TOMP language will increase interoperability for service providers and carriers.

Today the members of the MaaS Lab met in the Malietoren in The Hague. Bon Bakermans (photo) from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management explained that the TOMP API is the technical link between transporters and service providers. The ministry facilitates the development of the standard.

“The API is owned by all those involved, but none of those involved is the owner,” says Bakermans - Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

The renewed version 1.2 of the TOMP API now includes a payment module and advanced versions of plans and books. The API is developed in an open working group with public and private parties. Several parties are currently implementing the TOMP API and will use the interface for the MaaS pilots in the Netherlands. There is a lot of foreign interest and for example Australia, Switzerland and Belgium are including TOMP.
