The House of Representatives wants the matrix signs above the motorways, insofar as they are suitable for this, to indicate the current maximum speed as standard. Signals have been received from the traffic and water management functional management of traffic systems department that the matrix signs may not be ready in time for implementation on Thursday 12 March 2020.

Thousands of plates must be ordered and placed for the speed reduction. Changing or sometimes adding all those signs is a huge logistical task. The ICT that controls the information on matrix boards must also be adapted. It is now especially important that we implement the measures quickly, but also safely and properly.

Previously, people were mainly busy with inventorying 'planning plans' to find out what exactly is needed. Once known, the production of the plates was arranged relatively quickly.

implementation date is fixed

Traffic signs will be replaced along all our highways from Thursday March 12, 21.00 p.m. to Monday morning, March 16, 05.00 a.m. After that, a maximum speed of 100 km / h applies during the day. In the evening and at night, the maximum speed remains the same: where you were allowed to drive 120 km / h or 130 km / h, you can still drive between 19.00:06.00 and XNUMX:XNUMX.

Both from IenW and RWS, road users will be informed about the speed reduction to 100 km / h during the day and the replacement work between 12 and 16 March.

matrix boards do not adjust in time

Rijkswaterstaat employees had already been informed in mid-February via an internal e-mail that it had become a complex story that requires good preparation and good elaboration of the specifications, which are almost completed.

“In addition, work is already being done on parts that are clear, but it still remains a lot of work. The work for MTM can be completed by the MTM team around 15 May. This is followed by the test process at the Center IV Verification and Validation (CIVV) which will take at least 4 weeks, ”said the report.

Around June 15, the software would be available for roll-out in the power stations, but the roll-out itself will take at least 2 weeks. After rollout, the scenarios still have to be adjusted. In addition, it is possible to get the correct signs “in advance” in the database of the traffic center, so that VeCoBe can use them for the database changes that are needed for the adjustments of the rush-hour lanes outside.

VeCoBe stands for updating and updating the configurations in the various Dynamic Traffic Management (DVM) systems. VeCoBe is the only party allowed to make changes if a configuration change is required for MTM, CDMS, MWKS and / or MobiMaestro in particular.

The speed reduction is part of a package of measures to reduce nitrogen precipitation in nature. This creates space for nature restoration and infrastructure projects can be resumed.
