Despite the initiative for a ferry service between Terschelling and Vlieland, it appears to be received positively by municipalities and entrepreneurs on the islands, the Minister writes that he has no role in including this as a condition for a new concession or for the transfer of the concession to the provinces.

Municipalities and companies are currently investigating the feasibility. As the grantor of the Waddenveren West concession, the Minister of Nieuwenhuizen Wijbenga is responsible for passenger transport on the connection between Terschelling or Vlieland and the mainland.

The concessionaire is the Terschelling Steamer (TSM). In addition to the connections to the mainland, the TSM also maintains a connection between Terschelling and Vlieland periodically.

To questions from MPs Moorlag and Van Dijk about a ferry service between the islands of Terschelling and Vlieland, the Minister writes that she can imagine that the residents and the region will see benefits from this.

In the article in the Leeuwarder Courant about the initiative for a ferry service between Vlieland and Terschelling, a travel time reduction of approximately 70 minutes is outlined. Instead of about an hour and a half via the mainland, passengers with a direct ferry service are about 20 minutes on the road.
