President Cyril Ramaphosa and German chancellor Angela Merkel were welcomed last week by BMW Group board members Ilka Horstmeier and Milan Nedeljković to meet the engineers of the future at BMW Group Plant Rosslyn in Tshwane. 

Chancellor Merkel is in the country on a state visit focused on education programs and took the opportunity to meet the beneficiaries of BMW's multiple education and training programs at Plant Rosslyn.

During their visit to the factory, their excellence was able to visit the Bodyshop, which in recent years has expanded to become part of an R6.1bn investment in the factory. In the Bodyshop they met Ditshego Sebothoma and Tiisetso Mafolo, who have completed the BMW Graduate Program and are currently working in the Bodyshop.

Training and education are central to BMW Group SA's dedication to South Africa. Chancellor Merkel and President Ramaphosa met interns at the BMW Group Training Academy and met interns who are critical to the motorcycle industry.

Ilka Horstmeier, member of the BMW AG Board of Directors, Human Resources, said that education is the engine that drives our society and prepares the economy for the future in South Africa and worldwide. Tim Abbott, CEO of BMW Group South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, said the company was honored to receive the guests.
