Taxi drivers complain en masse about the deterioration of the data communication of their on-board computer, which often remains unreachable. At this moment, all on-board computers in the taxi are provided with an updated G3 certificate nationwide. Whether the wave of reported BCT failures coincides with the implementation of the certificate updates is currently being investigated.

In a response, Leon van Lier of Euphoria Software, the largest BCT supplier and known for the Cabman on-board computer, let us investigate and also analyze whether there have been more failures in recent weeks and in what area.

“That the aforementioned malfunction of the BCT seems to me strong. To be honest, I think it is a shame that it is published that it is due to the BCT, while we are not sure and because of this our BCT may incorrectly get negative in the news. ”, Says van Leon van Lier.

The failures in question can also be the result of a bad network accessibility in some areas and / or failures at a number of telecom providers. The fact that network failures occur precisely during this upgrade period makes it just a little too easy to make the connection with the replacement of the BCT software. Last Friday, according to Euphoria, a spokesman for T-Mobile informed the BCT supplier that the failures are known problems.

“We have experienced a malfunction with regard to mobile internet (nationally), as a result of which the connection regularly dropped. That has been permanently resolved since yesterday afternoon 13:30 PM. Devices that experienced these problems needed to be restarted for a while. ”

When inquiring by our Pitane Blue editorial staff at T-Mobile itself, Janneke Versteeg, Corporate Communication T-Mobile, let us know the following:

“We don't recognize ourselves in the complaints you describe. We have not received any reports from customers from that environment. If customers do experience problems, we would of course like to hear about them, so that we can solve them as quickly as possible. For this, you can contact the regular contact person at our T-Mobile customer service. ”

Kiwa continues to deliver new BCT cards

Kiwai will continue to issue new cards in the first quarter of 2020. Nevertheless, the exchange of cards is under enormous time pressure. In the current state of affairs, major problems are foreseen in March because companies and drivers flock to the cards and take no action.

In a previous letter it was reported that the previous card was valid until 2020, because the card's G2 certificate expires. All holders of a valid on-board computer taxi card that expires after 31 December 2019 can receive the new card with a G3 certificate. This applies to driver cards, entrepreneur cards and inspection cards.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management had also previously announced that these maps with new G3 certificates will be issued once, free of charge, because the current maps have not yet expired. Kiwa Register takes care of the implementation. A software update of your on-board computer is required to use the G3 card.

Despite Kiwa providing the on-board computer card for free, high amounts are requested for this update by the installer or supplier BCT. Taxi drivers or taxi companies are responsible for updating the software themselves and must have this carried out via an authorized BCT supplier or an approved installation station.

If you have a card that expires after December 31, 2019, you will automatically be informed by Kiwa Register about the new card. The new card will have the term as stated on the original decision.
