Since October 1, 2019 you can almost only refuel Euro95 E10. E10 is the replacement for Euro95 E5. The replacement contains 10% ethanol instead of 5% and as a result the CO2 content in the air will decrease. The flip side of the coin is that the higher percentage of ethanol is less economical than Euro 95 E5 and causes technical problems for scooters.

Problems for scooters due to 10% ethanol in petrol

The higher percentage of ethanol can dissolve older plastic and rubber parts, and certain metals can oxidize. To avoid these problems, consumers are better off choosing an electric scooter, says scooter expert Jack Walker, also in the TROS Radar broadcast where he spoke on this topic.

“The electric scooter has now become very popular. The rise of electric scooters is partly explained by the recent increase in ethanol in gasoline, which is causing gasoline scooters to experience all kinds of problems. To prevent these problems, consumers are better off choosing an electric variant. ”, Says Jack Walker, director of Fast & Furious in Alphen aan den Rijn.

An e-scooter is a solution especially in the city where there is already a lot of air pollution. They are economical to use, better for the environment and require less maintenance than scooters that run on petrol. According to Walker, 2020 will be the year of the electric scooter.

A few years ago e-scooters escooters were already on the market. They were usually not beautiful and very expensive. In addition, only a short distance could be traveled due to the limited battery. In addition, the charging time was extremely long and batteries were very heavy.

“Previously, there were not enough reasons to switch to an electric mode of transport, but that has now changed with improvements in design and technology and the addition of 5% extra ethanol to gasoline, causing problems for petrol scooters. This is one of the reasons why sales of electric scooters have increased considerably in recent months, ”said Jack walker.
