In order to keep Scheveningen attractive and easily accessible, the municipality invests in public transport and public space. The quality of public space will be improved through the Coast Healthy program. Line 1 is being adapted for the future from the RandstadRail Network program.

The line 2024 route in Scheveningen must be suitable for new, modern, comfortable low-floor trams by 1. Public transport throughout the city should also be accessible to people with physical disabilities by 2020. This means that wheelchair accessible platforms must be created at the tram stops.

Preliminary design tram line 1

A concept preliminary design (RIS1) was made in 2018 for the renewal of the tram tracks in Scheveningen on line 300029 in the Gevers Deynootweg. During the inspection period from 9 July to 23 September 2018, there were many reactions and objections entered. The mayors and councilors decided to make an adapted concept for decision-making.

The starting point for the amendments to the Preliminary Design was that a safe traffic situation would be created for public transport, bicycles and cars, and that as few parking spaces as possible should disappear. For this purpose, the pedestrian area on the sea side of the Gevers Deynootweg has been made narrower in the adapted design. In addition, the parking strip on this side of the Gevers Deynootweg has been narrowed in some places to the minimum permitted width. This allows 64 of the 79 parking spaces to be retained. And only 15 parking spaces need to be removed instead of the 42 parking spaces in the 1st Preliminary Design.
