The members of the SP group ask the Minister questions about the increase in premiums for insurance and civil liability that have a major impact and conclude that this increase in insurance costs is forcing many taxi drivers to stop their profession.

Minister of Finance Hoekstra told the chamber that it is clear that the additional costs for taxi insurance have an impact on the taxi industry due to the increasing cost of claims. For this reason, various interested interest groups, companies and organizations are now jointly looking for a solution.

insurance premiums less than 3% of the total costn

It is expected that many taxi operators will include higher insurance premiums in their rates. This is provided for in the NEA index, established by order of the Social Fund Taxi, which is often included in transport contracts. Incidentally, the index shows that insurance premiums account for less than 3% of the total costs.

The group members indicate that they see a connection with the doubling of the claim burden and the rise of Uber in the Netherlands. Requesting information by an insurer for which employer a taxi driver makes a trip during which he becomes involved in a road accident is only possible if, on the basis of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), there is sufficient interest for the insurer to be able to request this information.

Considering that information about the employer is not in itself relevant to the settlement of a claim by the insurer, it can be assumed that this requirement is not met. During the general consultation on Public Transport and Taxi on 26 September 2019, the State Secretary for Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW) promised to speak to the Minister of Justice and Security about the options for registering the taxi driver's employer with the accident registration of the Police. . The Minister of I&W will inform your House about this in her next letter about the taxi policy.
