The winners of the annual Drone Awards have been announced. In the 'National' category, the Kitesurf video by Thomas de Koster from Middelburg was voted the best drone video of the year. The Iceland video by Sander Coppens from Roosendaal received the most votes in the 'International' category.

This year, the Drone Awards will be presented for the sixth year.

This year's election for best drone video is divided into two categories: National and International. In the 'National' category, four drone videos have been nominated in their own country. The 'International' category contains videos recorded abroad.

In the 'National' category, Thomas de Koster's video was voted best drone video of the year. With his self-built drone, the Middelburger filmed a group of kite surfers on the beach of Vrouwenpolder in Zeeland. "I was already surprised that my video was nominated and now I have even won!" Said proud Zeeland. This is not the first prize that 21-year-old Middelburger wins with the help of drones. In 2018 De Koster won bronze during the Dutch Drone Race Championship.

The first prize in the 'International' category was won by Sander Coppens who took his drone to Iceland and made beautiful aerial recordings there. The drone pilot from Roosendaal has been nominated for the third prize for the third time and it is the first time that he has won it.

"Three times is shipping law, I am very happy with the profit!", Coppens explains enthusiastically.

Before making the video, he visited 13 different locations in Iceland and recorded more than 1100 gigabytes of video material.

In addition to a unique trophy and shop credit at Droneshop.nl, the winners will receive a mention in the hall of fame. Last year Marco Borsato's music video was chosen as one of the winners and in 2016 the arts of radio 538 deejay Coen Swijnenberg were awarded a Drone Award.

The Drone Awards have been presented annually since 2014 to the best drone videos of the year. The ceremony is an initiative of the DRONES.nl website and would like to put the drone videos from Dutch soil in the spotlight.
