The new Uber Benelux director Maurits Schönfeld commented that staying in the building is not a school. By practicing the profession of taxi driver himself, he hopes to understand what it is like to drive and to have to wait at Schiphol between the other drivers. Schönfeld (36) will soon get his taxi pass and then start working as a driver in the Amsterdam taxi world.

Maurits Schönfeld studied economics at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and joined Uber more than seven years ago. Perhaps a cliché, the new director who goes to the work floor to get more in touch with the staff, but there is certainly a thought behind it. Schönfeld mainly wants to improve the relationship with the drivers and thus get to know the face of Uber.

“I don't think anything is going wrong, but we need to have a better conversation with the drivers, to get to know each other and to know where each other has problems. You can call that a field of tension, but when you talk about it, you know what is bothering the other person, ”says Maurits Schönfeld in the Parool.

Schönfeld previously led a team of over 600 people who manage Uber Community Operations. This department is responsible for the customer experience with drivers and couriers in 42 locations (green Light Hubs) and that within 16 different markets in the Middle East, Africa and Pakistan.

“Working as a driver is going to bring me an invaluable amount. How is the interaction with customers? And how is the Uber app doing? Those rides are going to help me understand how it feels. If I stay here in the building, I don't learn anything. I hope to understand what it is like to drive and to have to wait at Schiphol between the other drivers, ”says Maurits Schönfeld.

It may be called a cliché, the new director who goes on the work floor to get more in touch with the staff and the product, but there is certainly a thought behind it. Schönfeld, now in office for three weeks, mainly wants to improve the relationship with the drivers.

“Our figures show that more than 80 percent are satisfied. 90 percent are happy with the flexibility. Most drivers earn 24 euros an hour. And then the costs are already off. This is in line with the market, ”says Maurits Schönfeld - director of Uber Benelux.
