Large-scale sustainability of aviation is a step closer today. The Dutch SkyNRG, world market leader in sustainable aviation fuel, officially launches its groundbreaking Board Now program together with launching members. By committing to Board Now for 5 years, companies will reduce their emissions from business flights and contribute to the development of new production capacity for sustainable kerosene.

Board Now is the first program in the world to enable companies to make a direct contribution to the development of this industry, thereby actively shaping the energy transition in aviation. A number of leading organizations, including PwC and Skyscanner, have already committed to the program.

As of today, organizations that are joining Board Now are committed to purchasing sustainable jet fuel for a period of 5 years. In doing so, they not only reduce their CO2 emissions from business flights, but also contribute to the development of new production capacity.

For example, their investment is used by SkyNRG to bridge the price difference between sustainable and fossil fuels. The coalition that is part of the Board Now program thus guarantees a substantial decrease of the first sustainable kerosene factory in Europe in Delfzijl (DSL-01).

This factory will produce 100.000 tons of sustainable kerosene annually. This paves the way for an annual decrease of over 270.000 tons of CO (2) emissions in aviation. Sustainable kerosene can deliver a reduction in CO (2) emissions of more than 85 percent compared to fossil fuel use.

"With the help of leading organizations participating in Board Now, we are able to accelerate the energy transition," said Theye Veen, SkyNRG's Managing Director. "We look forward to inspiring other international organizations to follow the example of our members and partners."

The independent Sustainability Board of SkyNRG advises whether the fuel meets the highest sustainability requirements. The Board consists of the WWF International, the European Climate Foundation, the Solidaridad Network and the University of Groningen. The sustainability of the chain and of the associated products is also guaranteed by certification of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB), the highest certification standard for sustainable fuels.
