Dutch passenger cars traveled a record 2018 billion kilometers in 121,4. That is 1,2 percent more than in 2017. Especially cars in the name of a company drove more. The number of kilometers traveled on diesel fell again in favor of petrol kilometers, especially for commercial vehicles. This is evident from new Statistics Netherlands figures.

The total number of km traveled by Dutch passenger cars is determined by the number of passenger cars, and the average number of kilometers driven by these cars. This average decreased by 2018 1,0 percent, just below 13 thousand kilometers. The fact that passenger cars drove a record number of km in 2018 can therefore be attributed to the increase in the number cars on the road. This was in 2018 2,2 percent higher than a year earlier.

Strongest growth in car kilometers for companies.

Passenger cars in the name of a company were responsible for this in 2018 22 percentof the kilometers traveled. These cars were driving together 26,1 billion kilometers, 4,0 percent more than in 2017. The number of kilometers driven by private individuals (95,3 billion) increased by 0,4 percent

Compared to 2008, the mileage of private passenger cars was almost 9 percent higher. Company cars drove 3,0 percent more than ten years ago, with the increase mainly taking place in the last four years.

More mileage on petrol, less on diesel.

The number of passenger car kilometers traveled on petrol increased by 2,7 percent, to 78,4 billion in 2018. Diesels on the other hand drove 2,5 percent less (34,3 billionkilometers). The number of kilometers on LPG has been decreasing for years and decreased in 2018 by 11,6 percent to 2,1 billion kilometers. The fully electrically driven distance almost doubled compared to 2017, while the number of electric cars even more than doubled. The proportion of fully electric driven km is by 0,5 percent of the total still limited.

Further increase in operating kilometers on petrol.

Business passenger cars on petrol almost drove in 2018 24 percent more kilometers than a year earlier. This was the second year in a row that more petrol kilometers were covered. In total, petrol vehicles drove from companies 8,7 billion kilometers. The number of diesel kilometers for company passenger cars decreased by more than 4 percent, tot 13,6 billion. It had also declined in 2017.

Of all the kilometers traveled in 2018 by passenger cars, they were registered in the name of a company 52 percent driven on diesel (59 percent in 2016) and 33 percent on gasoline (26 percent in 2016).
