E-scooter entrepreneur Wouter Moekotte had wanted to serve the Dutch market for a long time, but the expected 'green light' from the government is not coming. The Dutch founder of startup Zero Mobility nevertheless wants to be there as soon as the e-scooter is allowed on the public road in the Netherlands. He is therefore the first to launch his service on the Belgian market, with several hundred e-scooters.

Wouter Moekotte is a sustainable entrepreneur, founder of Bio Futura and co-founder of Beo Bottle. As a fanatic traveler, committed to partial mobility and to now change driven inner-city mobility.

Zero Mobility started a smart mobility company because they believe that entrepreneurship can be a way to provide solutions in a market that is not working properly. New initiatives are not tied to traditional infrastructure or thinking and can provide innovative ways to solve a problem. In the case of mobility in our cities, it is clear that there is an abundance of cars on our roads resulting in unhealthy levels of congestion and air pollution.

Berlin as a base

Zero Mobility wants to go to the Netherlands, is already in Belgium, but the head office is in Berlin, according to the startup entrepreneur in a explanation.

“We are not operational there,” explains Wouter Moekotte. “It's more of a base, and ours developers are there. Berlin is a testing ground when it comes to new mobility, which is why it is good to have an office there. Ultimately, we want to enter the German market, but we had to wait very long for the hardware specifications that Germany wanted to make mandatory for the e-scooters. For example, that the e-scooters are allowed 20 kilometers per hour. However, we had already bought a load. If we wanted to get it out on the street in Germany, we would have had to make additional adjustments. We will also deploy our coming cargo in Germany, but preferably earlier in the Netherlands. ”

Hotels facilitate Zero Mobility.

Zero Mobility does it slightly different from the Limes and Dotts of this world. The company supplies e-scooters to other companies, especially hotels, Moekotte explains.

“The hotels are not the customer, but the facilitator. Ultimately it is the consumers, ie the tourists, who use the steps. They can unlock the e-scooters at the hotels and take them into the city. So this is a different model from that of the public sub-scooter. ”
