WOTA (short for Woman Taxi) is the name of the new app, which will be launched in Vienna on August 28. Only female drivers are allowed to drive the rides and only female guests or men are allowed to drive with a woman accompanied.

“Unfortunately, there are only a few female taxi drivers on the road in Vienna and they are often not even present on a Saturday night, which is a disaster. My sister always felt uncomfortable with a male driver on the way home at night, ”explains de Ween.

The idea for the app, which is similar to Uber or MyTaxi, comes from Eden Biniaurishvili. And he is convinced that there are many more women who do not feel safe in the situation. Again and again you hear incidents where taxi drivers harass female customers. With the new app, women can take a taxi carefree, according to the founder.

The app is taboo for men. If a male downloads the app and orders a taxi, the ride will not be accepted and the profile will be blocked. Therefore, Biniaurishvili is not afraid of criticism:

"I realize the app is misanthropic, but I'm a man myself, women are always with me in the first place, it's all about safety, the app was designed for all women."

The app took seven months to develop. For the time being, WOTA is only available in Vienna. However, a further extension is planned. Both Apple and Android users can use the service.
