Many revelers appear to come to the Ghent Festivities by public transport. The buses transported 29% more revelers than on the opening day last year. De Lijn also allows other trams and buses to run a little longer and also uses night buses that serve the neighboring municipalities.

SNCB provides a special 'Ghent Festivities' train ticket, which means you pay half the price for a visit to Ghent (there and back). You can also take the bus and tram with the ticket and return the next day. If you come by bicycle, you can park it in one of the 12.000 bicycle sheds.

Artist and musician Walter De Buck breathed new life into the Ghent Festivities at the end of the 60s. He started with a group of friends at Sint-Jacobs in Ghent with alternative concerts, there was room for art and children's entertainment. Every year the parties grew and more and more squares, initiators, artists and musicians joined. The Ghent Festivities spread like an ink blot over the city.

The first day of the Genste Feesten attracted 105.000 visitors. That is 5.000 fewer than the first day in 2018. According to the city, the opening event was good for 10.000 visitors.

Female urinal and circular toilet paper

In order to provide all partygoers with a smooth sanitary service, the city provides nearly 80 toilets (public toilets and containers), good for almost 240 toilet bowls, and there are 300 urinals. For the first time there is also a special model for women. You can wash your hands with 430 liters of soap, there are 350.000 towels and 17.500 rolls of toilet paper. That toilet paper is extra special because it is completely recycled. It is made from hand towels that employees have used in recent months. They have been collected and cleaned with a natural cleaning agent and now circular toilet paper.
