The American aircraft maker announced on Tuesday that it delivered nearly 39 percent fewer aircraft in the first half of this year than in the same period last year. The total came to 239 aircraft.

Boeing has been in severe weather for months due to two plane crashes involving Boeing's 737 MAX aircraft. The crashes killed a total of 346 people in Ethiopia and Indonesia. Since March this year, devices of this type have been grounded worldwide. Bans were imposed after the two fatal plane crashes. Both crashes were caused by technical problems with the steering system.

Due to falling deliveries, the company may make fewer deliveries than its European competitor Airbus for the first time in eight years.

According to Reuters news agency, Airbus deliveries rose by 28 percent in the first half year. This may be enough to beat Boeing.

200 of the 239 Boeing aircraft sold were sold to International Airlines Group, a British-Spanish multinational airline company created after a merger between British Airways and Iberia.
